Our Wonderful World of Laminated Cottons

Rain, rain, you don’t have to go away. Once you’ve discovered the wonderful world of our new designer laminated cottons, everyday will be a dry day. Laminated cottons start out as 100% cotton fabric and go on to be coated with a Phthalate-free laminate. They are usually 54" to 58" wide, and are pliable and easy to work with.

Laminated Cottons and Oil Cloth come in a large assortment of colors and designs.

Here is a project using our Sassy Apron 23" laminated panel that is easy and fun to make.

Sassy Apron 23" Laminated Panel

The laminated fabric wipes clean with a damp cloth. This is a perfect apron for gardening days and when tackling a bit of spring cleaning.

Making this apron is a simple way to discover sewing with cotton laminates. Use this apron pattern to make countless other aprons from our large collection of cotton laminates and oil cloths.

When sewing laminates here are a few guidelines that will make the project go smoother.

  • Use a 3.00mm sewing machine stitch.
  • Use Universal Needles, sizes 12 or 14, as these needles have sharper points to deal with the layers of laminate.
  • Use a polyester thread, as moisture may be a factor when wearing the apron.
  • Always use a pressing cloth when ironing the cotton laminate fabric. Iron on a low setting, and test first on a scrap of laminate fabric.
  • Machine wash apron and line dry. Never place your creation in the dryer.
  • Use Wonder Clips by Clover for holding laminate layers together instead of pinning.
  • Materials to complete the Sassy Apron panel:

  • 1 Sassy Apron 23" panel
  • 7/8 yard of cotton fabric for the apron lining.
  • Polyester thread
  • All of the materials you will need to complete this project are online and at our retail store.
