1 Million Pillowcase Challenge

We had an amazing time at our 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge event over the weekend! The generosity of the sewing community is overwhelming. Between Friday and Saturday we sewed 590 pillowcases! We are thrilled to have such a great turnout for our first 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge charity event.

Pillowcases in our classroom!

All pillowcases were made for Embrace Oregon, who help aid DHS offices to help children and families within our community.
We were able to deliver nearly 600 pillowcases for foster children to the East Child Welfare office early this week. The Embrace Oregon team and DHS workers were very encouraged by the amount of pillowcases made for children who don’t have a lot to call their own.
From kits to finished pillowcases!
We are so grateful to those who came to sew! Most of our volunteers made multiple pillowcases while many stayed for hours, sewing as many as 20 pillowcases! We also had a number of beginners who were so eager to learn. Everyone did a great job!
Learning to sew pillowcases!
It was wonderful to sew for such a great cause. We received this message from Jillana Goble, a Child Welfare Coordinator and representative for Embrace Oregon. This is what she said:
I just wanted to thank you so much for all you are doing in bringing community awareness to the needs of our community's most vulnerable children! What Fabric Depot has done is AWESOME!

Thank you for your heart in partnership and for being willing to partner with us again in the future.
I can't tell you how much this means to not only children who will be the recipients of this generosity, but for staff to also feel supported in knowing that individuals in the community care for these children, and that they are not alone in the work they are doing.

Thanks, Fabric Depot. We are honored you would partner with Embrace Oregon in this way.

Fabric Depot will continue to be a drop-off location for handmade pillowcases. If you make a pillowcase we will collect them at our store and make sure they get in the hands of a foster child.
