AMNW Design Challenge: Mix It Up Winner

This morning on AMNW the designers from The Art Institute of Portland came together with their models for a last minute fluffing, before heading to the judges. The challenge was to create a look that mixed 3 prints from Westminster using a McCall’s pattern. Fit, construction, design esthetics, use of materials and originality were the criteria used in judging.

Amy Sim was up first with her sundress. She changed the bodice, and neckline, added bindings and a little appliquéd capelet. She wanted to emphasize the motif because the prints were so gorgeous.

The next designer Germaine Barnard designed a 3 piece beachwear ensemble. A Celtic print short jacket over pleated shorts. The top featured a Celtic knotting feature in the back.

Lindsay Chapel’s model sported hippie style long pants in 1 large, and 1 small print. Add a turban head scarf with a short sleeve blouse and it’s ready for the runway.

Natalya Hebert designed a business chic structural dress. It was a dress but she made it into a skirt and shirt duo to pair with other apparel.

And the winner of the First Design Challenge is… Congratulations Amy Sim with her twirling sundress and capelet.
