Retro Clean is truly one of the most remarkable products ever to come to market. For those who own heirloom garments or quilts that have not aged as gracefully as some, this will safely remove most of the yellowing from a washable garment hardy enough to withstand a couple of days soaking in the sunshine in a bath of Retro Clean solution.
The active ingredient, sodium perborate, is a safe compound that is found in other products such as laundry detergents and used as an antiseptic in the dentistry field. Because it is less aggressive than bleach, there are no worries that this compound will damage the fabric during the soaking process.
This is very easy to use. Simply pre-wash the garment or quilt first. The size of the plastic bucket you use depends on the size of the garment or quilt needing to be revitalized. If you anticipate nice sunny days, doing this on the back porch in the sun is best, but this can still be accomplished inside if it’s not possible to do so. Fill the bucket with water and then add 3-4 tablespoons of Retro Clean. Stir until dissolved and then add the garment/quilt to be cleaned. For the next two days, let it soak in the solution and stir the fabric, making sure it is completely submerged. Afterward, remove from the bucket and squeeze out the excess water. Dry and see the difference!
